Haircare & Skincare go hand in hand

The last couple years there has been an absolute boom in the Skin Care industry, most people have a skin care routine and by this time have found a regimen that works for them. As we begin this new year we want to challenge you to start considering your hair and scalp as a part of your skin care routine. Not necessarily applying your skincare products to your hair and scalp, but rather considering what you’re putting on them.

We know this sounds a little daunting, but we’re here to break it down for you! A lot of skin care and hair care are going to have the same basic concepts, probably ones you’re very familiar with.

Your shampoo is your cleanser, and your conditioner is your moisturizer. Pretty simple!

Plenty of people are fine with having this as their whole regimen. However if you’re anything like us, there are a couple more steps in your routine than a cleanser and moisturizer.

Once a week we like to exfoliate. Cleansing the skin of dead cells and gently clearing our barrier from weeks of both pollution and build-up. That’s where your Clarifying Shampoo comes in, and it works the same as your exfoliator. Cleansing once a week with a clarifying shampoo will break down everything that’s gone into our hair and scalp during the week. A few examples being product build-up, hard water and minerals. These sit in our hair throughout the week, nestling into the cuticle and clogging the pores. Yikes!

Do you use a serum somewhere in your routine? Perhaps a Ceramide or hyaluronic acid? Most serums have a combination of ingredients that combat multiple concerns at the same time. Let’s do the same for your hair!

Hair is made of proteins and fatty acids like collagen. In skin care, we want to stimulate and support these proteins and fatty acids by nourishing your hair with a serum.

Depending on your hair type (fine, thick, curly, or straight) we can narrow down what serum works best. This allows us to better aid you in styling your hair as well. Curly hair needs a little more moisture, where as fine hair needs a little more protein. If this part of the regimen seems a little overwhelming, don’t worry. That’s what your hairstylist is for! We highly recommend talking to your stylist about what products are going to nourish your hair the best.

One of the best parts of going on your hair care journey is that you don’t have to go it alone, we’re here to help and want to get to know you and your hair so we know what best to recommend. So do your own research, talk to your stylist and try things out! At Parlour we understand it will be a trial and error process so don't worry, we have an even exchange policy. If you don’t love your product, bring it back and we’ll find something that you do love.

We look forward to serving you in the new year and hope that this year is full of joy, peace and absolutely fabulous hair.

xoxo
